Carpel Tunnel Symptoms
Common symptoms suffered in the wrist, hand and/or fingers can include:
- Weakness to the hand
- Pins and needles sensations
- Shooting, traveling sensations
- Severe, piercing pain
Carpal Tunnel Causes
Within the carpal tunnel there are lots of structures including muscles, blood vessels, tendons and other structures all compacted in a small area. If one of the structures becomes inflamed, such as from overuse, it can compress the median nerve and cause the symptoms of carpal tunnel.
Repetitive tasks such as typing, using a computer mouse or other regular actions can cause overuse which may lead carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms.
Arthritis sufferers and pregnant women are also at a higher risk of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Carpal Tunnel Treatment
There are a number of natural treatment options which can be pursued before surgery is considered, including:
- Carpal Tunnel Exercises – specific stretches can be prescribed by your Osteopath to suit your individual situation
- Rest – a period of rest from the motion causing the pain can help to alleviate the discomfort
Carpal Tunnel Relief
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition which can be successfully treated by osteopathy.
Osteopathy can create space in the Carpal Tunnel by relieving muscular pressure, improving fluid flow as well as the movement of the joints which will help to alleviate median nerve entrapment.
